Pavement Repairs

Pavement is an essential component of our daily lives, perhaps more than we recognize. It's used for walking, shopping, parking, biking, and more. Ideally, the surface would remain flawless from when it was built or paved, but regrettably, this is not always the case.

It is both uncomfortable and unsafe when there are holes, cracks, fissures, or other types of damage in the concrete or asphalt that make it hard to walk on. When it comes to regular pavement repair, keeping and maintaining the surface is essential for the project's long-term success. Pavement and asphalt repair guarantees that the asphalt surface or concrete is safe and functional.

At Victoria Concrete & Paving, we are dedicated to serving homes and business owners with their concrete and paving requirements. We are a Victoria-based company serving many communities on Vancouver Island for over two decades.

When to Consider Pavement Repairs

and Maintenance

When Visible Cracks Starts Appearing

A crack in the pavement is the first sign of trouble. The influences of the heat, moisture, and movements in the earth are the primary causes of asphalt cracking. When a crack reaches the surface of the pavement, liquid can enter the pavement's substructure and pond, causing it to break up and cause more issues.

Noticeable Surface Problem

Some of the most common issues that have been observed to cause major problems include oil spots, disintegrating asphalt, crocodile cracking and other damages caused by external factors. In these cases, it is very crucial to have it repaired by a professional asphalt contractor such as Victoria Concrete & Paving immediately. Leaving it unattended for long periods of time will not only cause more damage to the pavement, but the cost will also be much greater considering the size of the project.

Pavement Depression

An asphalt surface depression is caused by getting compacted due to regular use. It can also be caused by sub-bases that were not correctly laid.  Because depressions are deeper in height than asphalt, they will hold water for a more extended period. Water buildup can lead to other problems such as raveling and potholes.

We Save You Time

There is a lot of effort involved in running a business. From personnel management to brainstorming the best ideas, a significant amount of time and effort is required. This implies you won't have time to fix cracks and inspect the parking lot in the afternoon. It will be critical for you to ensure that everything runs well, especially if you operate in a business building and serve many consumers at once.

The reputation of your business could be at risk if the pavement isn't level. Your reputation could be jeopardized even if you're in charge of a large company but fail to address minor issues. However, at Victoria Concrete and Paving, we will assess your property and find any problems. We will work hand in hand with you to improve your business by handling the grunt work, saving you time and effort to overlook your pavement repair needs.

02

We Only Use High-quality

Paving Materials

Asphalt parking lots made with high-quality materials last for a long time and don't need to be fixed as often are more durable. Cheaper materials are more prone to damage and will not last as long, resulting in increased long-term costs for repairs and even asphalt replacement.

As one of the most reliable asphalt paving contracts in Victoria, we only use the most reliable and high-quality materials for your paving needs. You can rely on us to not cut corners and cheap out on the materials for your concrete pavement.

03

You Can Count on Our Expert Opinions

We can spot possible difficulties a mile away as an expert asphalt contractor. Even if you only call us for one tiny problem, we will thoroughly inspect your entire property and try to uncover a few other faults that would otherwise go unnoticed by you. Because of this, you will receive our expert opinion about what has to be done.

Asphalt and Pavement Repair Process

Asphalt surfaces deteriorate with time, which is true of any asphalt surface. Several things might cause asphalt to degrade prematurely and require repair. These include high traffic volumes, chemical spills, inclement weather, water penetration, and UV radiation exposure.

The damaged sections are removed and replaced with new hot asphalt as part of our skilled repair process. Before applying new hot asphalt, the underlying base must be rebuilt and compacted. Any weak locations are corrected, and an additional base is added if necessary. The hot asphalt is laid down and compressed to the required depth, usually in two layers.

Hot rubber is applied around the outside of the new asphalt area after the new asphalt has been applied. This makes sure that water can't get through any gaps between the new asphalt and the old asphalt. Once the new asphalt patch has been installed, it is cordoned off from all obstructed vehicles for the period of the curing process.

Here’s a detailed summary of how we perform our asphalt repair process:

On-site Inspection and Consultation

On-site consultation is included in all of our asphalt repair services. In this phase, one of our skilled and experienced asphalt experts will visit your location and assess the many problems affecting your property. Whether you need asphalt potholes fixed, highly cracked portions cut out and replaced, or catch basins regraded and restored, our free on-site assessment will assess the condition and give you an appropriate solution, timescale, and pricing.

Asphalt Cutting and Removal

After determining the issue, we will then send our team of experts to the location to perform the necessary repairs needed for your site. Before any new asphalt can be laid, the old, damaged material must be removed and disposed of correctly. In order to remove the asphalt off the surface, various instruments and an asphalt saw are used. Potholes must be filled so that the fresh asphalt may be put against straight edges, extending the life of the material. Afterwards, the asphalt is loaded onto our disposal trucks and transferred to the asphalt plant for further processing.

Recompacting and Base Correction

After cutting and removing the asphalt surface, we will start correcting the underlying base. Our professionals' responsibility is to level and compact the base, ensuring that there is no sinking of the foundation. This is a critical step that must be properly executed before the hot asphalt restoration procedure can begin.

Applying Hot Asphalt

Our expert technicians will start to rake the hot asphalt, so it looks rough and keep it compacted. Typically, two layers of asphalt are laid, with each layer compacted to a depth of around 2 inches. After compacting the final asphalt layer, the job is finished and left to cure.

Applying Hot Rubber Bead

We use a hot rubber bead around the perimeter to seal the gaps between the newly surfaced asphalt and the previous pavement. This keeps water from infiltrating the asphalt patch, ensuring that it lasts as long as possible.

FAQS

Here are answers to some common questions.

  • What needs to be done to keep your parking lot in good shape for a long time?

It's essential to keep an asphalt parking space clean to keep the layer from degrading, to keep stress cracks from forming, and to keep the appearance of your home or business looking good. We recommend performing preventative maintenance annually, such as crack patching when new cracks form.

You should seal your parking lot every two years, depending on the amount of traffic and wear. Excessive cracking or the development of additional structurally failing sections necessitates corrective maintenance. When it comes to road repairs, this involves mending potholes (localized patching), repairing asphalt (overlay or resurfacing), and replacing the entire road.

  • Is it possible to recycle asphalt?

Certainly! It is possible to recycle asphalt pavement in many ways, such as pulverization, cold milling, and cement stabilization. Any asphalt that is removed from a project site is taken back to a plant, where it is recycled into a new hot asphalt mix.

  • When is the ideal time to conduct asphalt maintenance?

Asphalt maintenance can be done all year round if the weather is dry and the temperature is above 50 degrees. The months of March through November are usually ideal for this. The idea is to rectify any issues before the winter so water does not penetrate and freeze within your paving system.

  • Is your work going to have any effect on my business?

Project phasing, ensuring safe working conditions, and ensuring company continuity is all ways good contractors differentiate themselves from bad contractors. We reduce your effect by planning ahead of time and identifying and controlling work zones. We'll collaborate with you to create a work plan that allows your business to keep operating while the work is being done. In addition, our staff work fast and efficiently to complete the project as quickly as feasible. Customers frequently tell us that the job was completed sooner than expected.
